Speedwell Fire Visit

On Friday 28 October, we visited the Speedwell Fire station to have a guided tour and to find out more about the life of a firefighter. The cadets got to handle the equipment that firefighters use on a daily basis and got to look around the station. Many thanks to Avon Fire Brigade for entertaining us!

Expedition Leader assessment weekend exercise.

On the 14th – 16th October, 5 cadets & 2 staff attended the expedition leaders course assessment weekend in the Forrest of Dean. The cadets camped out over both nights, and were fed on service ration packs. On the Saturday they were given training in camp craft & navigation techniques followed by a 3 hour walk. Following a very cold night camping, and lack of sleep due to the church bell ringing every hour of the night, the cadets completed a 6 hour walk. During the day the staff under assessment demonstrated their navigational competence and were subjected to first aid scenario’s. The weekend finished with the great new’s that both Fg Off’s Claridge & Dyer passed their course.

Next on the agenda is to start planning the DoE walks and weekend camps for 2012!

Blaise Castle night exercise with 2442 sqn.

On Tuesday 11th October the cadets and staff took part in a night exercise at Blaise Castle with 2442 sqn. Although there was insufficient time to complete the objectives of the exercise, the cadets had an enjoyable night. A longer exercise is planned for the 25th November at the same place.

Weekend Camp 16th – 18th September.

7 cadets & 3 staff had a fantastic time at Briarlands scout camp. The BBQ was expertly done by Fg Off Claridge on Friday night, followed by bacon butties for Saturday breakfast. We then had two great walks, with the cadets really enjoying themselves.

Well done to Cpl’s Barnes & Halliwell who have made it through to the regional athletics final. They will represent the South West Region at RAF Cosford on the 18th June.
